Baruk was born in India and is from the Mizo tribe on his mother’s side and of Syrian-Christian ethnicity on his father’s. He worked in the IT and Telco industries in India and moved with his wife to New Zealand in 2009.

After a stint working for Riding for the Disabled in Hamilton, Baruk worked for Auckland Libraries. Here he helped set up library makerspaces and implemented design training, then moved to the Auckland Co-design Lab.

Baruk is committed to making systems more equitable and is driven by a need to be useful to others as well as to be action-oriented.
